Price for cigarettes in Greece

The statements of a new law directed to tobacco control movement have recently become operative. Nowadays tobacco goods advertisement is already prohibitted. Also the raise of excise rates is expected and it will certainly lead to a price rise.

Tobacco control movement is common in Greece like in other European countries and like in the whole world.

Nowadays it is allowed for people over 18 who come from non-European countries to import not more than 2 blocks of cigarettes or 200 cigarillos and 100 cigars or 0,5 kg of tobacco.

If you come from European country, you can import to Greece not more than 4 blocks, 400 cigarillos, 1 kg of tobacco or 200 cigars.

Cigarettes in Greece (like in all European countries) are much more expensive than in other countries. The pack of Marlboro costs more than 4 dollars, LM costs a bit less than 4 dollars.

The prices for cigarettes are set by the government like in all countries. That is why the prices are identical. The only difference is connected with the place where cigarettes had been bought – had it been an island or a continent. Cigarettes can cost 2 dollars more on the island. Greek residents sometimes go to Turkey to buy cigarettes because it is much cheaper. But the problem is that you can import only one block of cigarettes.
